Modern pharmacology offers a variety of drugs capable of relieving pain and spasms. However, some medications intended for treatment can become the source of serious problems when misused. Trigan-D is one such drug. It’s available in pharmacies, but its abuse leads to addiction, damage to internal organs, and even death.
As a psychiatrist, I will explain why Trigan-D is dangerous and how to avoid its uncontrolled use.
What is Trigan-D?
Trigan-D is a combination drug containing two active ingredients:
- Paracetamol (500 mg) – an analgesic that relieves pain and fever.
- Dicycloverine (20 mg) – an antispasmodic that relaxes smooth muscles.
The drug is used for gastrointestinal spasms, menstrual pain, and certain neurological conditions.
Medical Use
Trigan-D is prescribed by doctors to treat:
- ✅ Intestinal and stomach spasms
- ✅ Dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation)
- ✅ Biliary and renal colic
- ✅ Irritable bowel syndrome
However, its use should be strictly prescription-based, as overdosing can make it dangerous.
Dangers of Abuse
Why do people take Trigan-D in large doses? The reason lies in its psychoactive effects. When overdosed, the drug can induce euphoria, hallucinations, and altered states of consciousness.
Abuse of the drug leads to:
- ❌ Toxic liver damage (due to paracetamol)
- ❌ Mental disorders (panic attacks, paranoia)
- ❌ Heart problems (tachycardia, blood pressure spikes)
- ❌ Development of tolerance (gradually requiring higher doses)
Psychoactive Effects and Addiction
In large doses, dicycloverine affects the central nervous system, causing:
- Altered states of consciousness
- Hallucinations (visual and auditory)
- Euphoria or, conversely, fear and paranoia
- Impaired coordination
Regular use leads to psychological dependence. A person starts taking the drug not for treatment but for the “high.”
Consequences of Long-Term Use
Prolonged use of Trigan-D results in severe consequences:
Physical Consequences:
- 🔴 Liver damage (hepatotoxicity)
- 🔴 Kidney dysfunction
- 🔴 Seizures and muscle spasms
- 🔴 Digestive disorders
Mental Consequences:
- 🟠 Psychosis and paranoia
- 🟠 Decline in intelligence and memory
- 🟠 Panic attacks
- 🟠 Depression and suicidal thoughts
Overdose Symptoms and First Aid
Symptoms of a Trigan-D overdose include:
- ⚠️ Nausea and vomiting
- ⚠️ Dizziness and loss of consciousness
- ⚠️ Seizures
- ⚠️ Respiratory paralysis (in severe cases)
What to do in case of an overdose?
- Call emergency services immediately.
- Keep the person awake if they are conscious.
- Perform gastric lavage (if less than 2 hours have passed since ingestion).
- Administer activated charcoal (1 tablet per 10 kg of body weight).
- Monitor breathing and heartbeat until medical help arrives.
A Trigan-D overdose can be fatal, so time is critical.
How to Stop Abusing Trigan-D?
Overcoming addiction is possible, but it requires a comprehensive approach:
- 🔹 Detoxification – cleansing the body of toxins in a hospital setting.
- 🔹 Medication therapy – treating damaged organs.
- 🔹 Psychotherapy – working with a psychologist or psychiatrist.
- 🔹 Rehabilitation – restoring a normal life.
